HFC Bank holds second draw of 2010 HOMESAVE promotion

The management of HFC Bank, has held the second draw of its 2011 Homesave Promotion, aimed at rewarding its cherished customers for their dedication and loyalty to the bank.

The Homesave Promotion is also a means of promoting the goals of home ownership which is the core business of HFC Bank.

Speaking at the draw, the Executive Director of Finance and Investments of the Bank, Mr. Akwete Akita observed that, the Homesave Promotion is an innovative way of encouraging people to save given the current economic conditions in the country.

He said the promo is also to call on prospective customers and the general public to cultivate and develop a good savings habit with the possibility of owning a home.

Mr. Akwete Akita stated that HFC Bank as a Home Loan Provider is through the Homesave promo delivering their promise of expanding homeownership to every income earning Ghanaian.

Meanwhile, Madam Sophia N.K. Aryee, a customer at the Ridge branch of the bank is the proud winner of a two-bedroom detached house located at Oyarifa after the second draw of the 2010 HOMSAVE promotion.

Madam Sophia who was spoken to on phone expressed gratitude to the bank and urged all customers to enter the draw.

The third and final draw of the HFC Homesave Promotion will be held in September 2011 to make another proud HFC Bank customer a home owner.

There would be other prizes such as laptops, home theatres, beach umbrellas and sports bags for runners up who may not win the ultimate prize.

HFC Bank has for the past 21 years been committed to improving the housing needs of Ghanaians both home and abroad through Mortgage Loans.

MTN marks World Desertification Day

MTN Ghana has organized an environmental awareness programme for students of Accra High Senior School, on the need to protect the environment from being destroyed in the country.

The programme formed part of the company’s 5th Edition of 21 Days of Yello Care programme, which is an initiative of the MTN Group to give the opportunity to all MTN employees across its operating countries, to volunteer their services to the communities in which the Group operates.

The students were grouped into various teams and deliberated on issues such as mining, land degradation, water body management, littering of the environment, deforestation and recycling among others.

Speaking at a symposium dubbed ‘Our Environment, Our Future’ to mark world Desertification Day, which falls on 17th June in Accra, yesterday, Board Member of MTN Ghana Foundation, Mrs. Nabilla Williams observed that human activities are having huge negative effect on the environment.

According to her, man is currently faced with problems of desertification, oil spillage and pollution in its different facets, illegal felling of tress and improper waste disposal.

‘With our combined efforts, we can change our ways to make a positive impact on the environment. Please let’s brainstorm on how we can change our habits and make a difference in the environment’, Mrs. Williams appealed.

Meanwhile, as part of marking this year’s 5th edition of the 21 Days of Yello Care has witnessed MTN planting 10,000 seedlings through out the country. The company also took part in World Ocean Day which falls on 8th June every year to clean beaches and banks of some river bodie.



MTN staff clean beaches to mark World Oceans Day

Staff volunteers of MTN Ghana have undertaken a clean up exercise at the South La Beach in Accra and some selected beaches and water bodies in the regions, as part of this year’s 21 Days of Yello Care programme. The exercise was also used to mark this year’s World Oceans Day which was celebrated today.

About 500 staff volunteers of MTN Ghana and some residents of the communities took part in the exercise. Other water bodies which where cleaned include; Bakano and Intsin Beaches in Sekondi Takoradi, Lake Bosomtwe in Kumasi and the Baakunia Ba stream in Sunyani.

In addition to the clean up exercise, staff also used the opportunity to educate members of the communities to act more responsibly by keeping the water bodies clean to promote good health and attract tourists.

MTN Ghana appreciates the role the environment plays in the sustenance of businesses. It therefore sees the need to dedicate this year’s 21 days of community outreach programme to embarking on activities that will help preserve the environment for future generations.

In her address, the Executive Director of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Mrs. Mawuena Trebarh said, “we are always focused on the issue of environmental and social sustainability in respect of our business model for the benefit of our society. We are committed to making a positive impact on the environment through our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we operate.”

The CEO of MTN Ghana, Michael Ikpoki, remarked that MTN shares concern for the protection of our oceans and other water bodies. “The environmental focus of this year’s Y’ello Care programme is in line with the United Nation’s declaration of 2011 as the “International Year of the Forest’, hence MTN Group’s global theme ‘Making a Positive Difference to the Environment’,” he said.

He was not happy that Ghana’s forests have experienced drastic depletion from 8 million to 1.8million hectors over the last two decades saying “MTN has therefore committed itself to grow 9,000 tree seedlings out of the 21,000 being planted across the 21 MTN operating countries”.

Mr. Ikpoki thanked the Ministry of Defence, Lands Commission, Zoom Landscape and Beautification, the Ministry of Lands and Forestry, the Forestry Commission and the Wildlife society for their partnership with MTN to achieve their target of planting the 9000 trees at mount Afajato, Burma camp and other areas across the entire country.

Other activities scheduled to take place within the 21 days of Yello Care include: planting of trees around some selected water bodies, environmental awareness campaign in selected Secondary Schools and a football gala.

The 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative was instituted by the MTN Group President and CEO in 2007 to give all MTN employees an opportunity to contribute towards improving the welfare of their communities. It has now become a prominent feature on MTN’s calendar, and is also one of MTN’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes driven by the MTN Foundation.
